Our Mission:
is to engage curious, creative, and scientific minds in a playful learning environment for all children and families.
Central to this mission is supporting STEM education through fun and interactive exhibits that support learning through play.
Our Story
From a museum without walls to a place for our community to discover.
Wise Wonders began in 2009 as a project of the Junior League of Billings with just $3,000, a handful of exhibits, and a big idea: create more opportunities for children in our community to learn through hands-on exploration.
There wasn't a museum building yet. Instead, Wise Wonders became a "museum without walls," bringing exhibits and activities to community events throughout Billings.
The idea continued to grow.
A feasibility study was completed in 2012, followed by the formation of a steering committee and the development of a business plan with MSU Billings. In 2014, Wise Wonders established its first Board of Directors and became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
In 2015, Wise Wonders finally had a place to call home when donated space at 110 North 29th Street allowed the museum to open a permanent location.
But our community kept showing up—and Wise Wonders kept growing.
In 2019, the museum moved to our current home at 3024 2nd Avenue North in downtown Billings. Since then, we've expanded our exhibits, educational programs, camps, field trips, community partnerships, and opportunities for children to experience hands-on learning.
What started with $3,000 and a few exhibits has grown into a place where tens of thousands of children and families come to investigate, imagine, build, experiment, and play each year.
And we're still growing!
